The end of Los Angeles is only the beginning for Nick and Shane Wenzel. They mourn together after a nuclear terrorist attack claims the lives of their parents. Their responses to the tragedy soon set them on different paths. Nick moves to Ohio to live with his estranged uncle. Governor Serge Bough's demand for a crusade against the Arab nations appeals to the young man. Shane joins a student organization opposed to the civil rights abuses that stem from the new security crackdown. As the world economy crumbles, Shane's ideology becomes a minority viewpoint. Serge Bough's Progressive Conservative Party steadily wins representation in the government. When Bough seizes absolute power, Shane joins a resistance movement known as the American Liberation Front. He must fight against a powerful totalitarian regime that includes his own brother.

All too possible in this crazy world we live in. Interesting characters centering on two brothers with opposing political view points and an uncle slavering over the Presidency. While not stated, I wondered if the Uncle might have been behind the nuke in LA as part of his plan to take over the country. What happens after he does become President makes for an interesting story along with the predictable responses of the left. While this story did not keep me reading all night to finish at one setting, I enjoyed the read. Enough action to keep my adrenaline junky satisfied with some surprise plot twists later in the book including an ending that was "unusual".Product details

American Liberation Front Scott Haworth 9781490415024 Books Reviews
With all of the fear after 9/11, you can certainly see how something like this could happen if things were more extreme. It's an interesting look at some of the more extreme politics that could occur in this country and the differences of opinion within a family.
The story begins with a nuclear attack on Los Angeles, which is never explained as to who, what or why. There were numerous grammatical errors that a good editor would have caught. The fact that the story jumped around a lot was something that made it difficult to follow. As for the characters, I found them to be rather scatter-brained and not very believable.
Couldnt read fast enough, great read !
a very well written book. you would never guess how it ends.it is well written .
Enjoyed the storyline and the characters were very realistic. The writing was easy to read and the storyline easy to follow.
I enjoyed reading this book, even though the plot seems almost unbelievable. It would have been interesting to see how the world would be after Bough's assassination. Maybe the story is continued in another book . . .
Although I actually enjoy Haworth's "on the nose" satires (particularly "Abraham Lincoln's Lie), this exploration of a megalomaniacal Tea-Partyish politician taking control of the government was a bit too predictable. It's an enjoyable-enough read, especially if, like me, you share Haworth's ideological biases, but I don't believe this one lived up to the author's best.
